Integer patterns leak
If every ply closes on a whole number of circuits from the same start, each ply's bands land exactly on the last ply's: the small gaps between band edges stack straight through the wall. A half-band shift per ply staggers them.

Two patterns: 37.0 circuits per ply, or 37.5. Which one leaks?
37.0. The gaps line up through the whole wall, a straight channel of resin. Microcracks in that resin, and a drop of water finds its way out.
