LESSON 5.2 · 2:21 · CHAPTER 5 · PATTERNS
Circuits to cover
A band at angle α covers B/cos α of the circumference, so one layer needs N = πD·cos α / B bands each way. N has to be a whole number, so you pick between a little gap and a little overlap, or nudge the angle or band width.
Predict · at 0:44 in the video
A 300 millimetre vessel, wound at 26.5 degrees, with an 11.7 millimetre band. How many circuits per layer?
About 72. 942 millimetres of circumference, times 0.895, over 11.7. That's 72.1.

About the numbers
Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where a number rests on an assumption, the video marks it with an asterisk and says where it comes from.
