Digital twin vs digital shadow
A digital shadow records; a digital twin answers back. The shadow captures manufacturing data for decisions after the process, and it can be adopted today without breaking certification rules. The twin uses live data to analyse and propose changes during the process, which needs fast automation hardware and runs into the rule that in-process changes must follow approved procedures.

Halfway through a run, a new material batch moves the best setting. How many bad parts before a digital shadow fixes it?
One. The shadow sees the problem in the data from part three, and part four gets the corrected setting through an approved change. With no data loop at all, every part after the batch change is out.
