From design to shop floor
Every part runs a numerical cycle: need → design → process plan → prototype → back to design, until it works, then production. Two things make that cycle slow for AFP. The design world speaks in discrete ply angles by region, but the machine needs mathematically continuous motion, so somebody has to translate.

Each design, plan and prototype loop takes six weeks, and a prototype passes forty percent of the time. How long until you're done, on average?
If each loop passes with probability p, the number of loops follows a geometric distribution, and the average is one over p. One over zero point four is two and a half loops: fifteen weeks. Here are a thousand simulated programmes.

Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where the numbers are invented to show a mechanism, the video says so on screen.
