Open loop vs closed loop
Most AFP progress has come as siloed fixes, one problem at a time, which leaves an open-loop system: nothing downstream feeds back upstream. The factory of the future closes the loop with a data pipeline: models, manufacturing data and events, and quality metrics connecting design, planning, manufacturing and inspection. Heating shows why at the smallest scale.

The heater power is fixed. The head slows down for a curve. What happens to the tape temperature?
It climbs. At half the speed, every millimetre of tape gets twice the energy. With fixed power, the tape overheats every time the head slows.

Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where the numbers are invented to show a mechanism, the video says so on screen.
