LESSON 6.6 · 1:57 · CHAPTER 6 · CHOOSING AND HANDLING A MATERIAL
The barrel is a ladder
Amorphous LFAM grades run their nozzle at roughly Tg + 130 to 170 °C, reached by a temperature ladder along the barrel so the pellets melt fully without cooking.

A new carbon fibre PEI grade has a glass transition of 217 degrees. Estimate the nozzle temperature.
About 350 to 390 degrees. Amorphous grades run their nozzle at roughly Tg plus 130 to 170. One supplier's carbon fibre PEI goes to 410.

About the numbers
Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where a number rests on an assumption or a single source, the video marks it with an asterisk and says where it comes from.
