Tension and angle squeeze out resin
A tensioned band presses on the mandrel with pressure p = T sin²α / (R w): tension times the sine squared of the angle from the axis, over radius and band width. Hoops press hardest, low-angle helicals hardly at all, so for the same tension hoops end up with the most fibre and the least resin.
Predict · at 0:39 in the video
Same tension. Which ends up with the higher fibre volume, the helicals or the hoops?
The hoops. At 20 degrees, a band presses with 12 percent of what a hoop does. At 55, 67 percent.
