How you unwind decides the twist
Pulling tow off the end of a stationary spool puts in one twist per wrap unwound; paying it off tangentially from a rotating spool puts in none. A twisted band is narrower and thicker, leaving gaps and dry spots.
Predict · at 0:30 in the video
A pipe 3 metres long, 255 millimetres across, with a 0.75 millimetre wall, wound off the end of the spool. Roughly how many twists go into it?
About five thousand. The wall holds 1.8 litres. With a 12K carbon tow at 60 percent fibre, that's about 2.4 kilometres of tow.
