Continuous fibre, where it counts
Laying continuous fibre only in the beads that carry load lifts their stiffness far beyond what short fibre can reach.
Predict · at 0:32 in the video
Short fibre carbon ABS reaches about 11 gigapascals along the bead. What does continuous aligned carbon at 30 percent by volume give, by the rule of mixtures?
About 70 gigapascals. 30 percent of 230, plus 70 percent of 2.2. About six times short fibre.

About the numbers
Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where a number rests on an assumption or a single source, the video marks it with an asterisk and says where it comes from.
