LESSON 8.6 · 1:45 · CHAPTER 8 · MACHINES, PATHS AND MACHINING
Closing the loop on temperature
Measure the surface under the nozzle and let the controller set the speed, so layer time adapts as heat builds up.
Predict · at 0:28 in the video
An infrared-controlled build holds 125 degrees under the nozzle. As the part grows taller, does the controller speed the head up, or slow it down?
It slows down. A tall wall loses its heat path down into the bed. Each layer stays hotter for longer.

About the numbers
Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where a number rests on an assumption or a single source, the video marks it with an asterisk and says where it comes from.
