LESSON 5.4 · 1:48 · CHAPTER 5 · WHAT'S IN THE PELLET
The screw breaks fibres, mostly before you buy
Compounding has already cut short fibres to about 0.3 to 0.4 mm, so the printer's screw takes off only about a tenth more.
Predict · at 0:30 in the video
Carbon fibre ABS pellets carry fibres averaging 0.372 millimetres. What comes out of a large format screw?
About 0.33 millimetres. 11 percent shorter. The screw took off about a tenth.

About the numbers
Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where a number rests on an assumption or a single source, the video marks it with an asterisk and says where it comes from.
