Variable-angle paths
A ply doesn't have to hold one fibre angle. Let the angle change along the reference curve and the stiffness changes with it, so a panel can be stiff where it needs to be. The price is steering: every change of angle is a curve, and the curve has a radius the machine must be able to lay.
Predict · at 1:52 in the video
A zero-to-forty-five path. The steering limit is six hundred and thirty-five millimetres. How short can d be?
About half a metre. Here's why. The angle changes at a steady rate along the panel, the change over d.

Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where the numbers are invented to show a mechanism, the video says so on screen.
