LESSON 3.2 · 2:04 · CHAPTER 3 · THE BEAD
Resolution costs squared
Scale the bead down by a factor n at the same head speed and the deposition rate falls by n²: fine detail is expensive in hours.
Predict · at 0:35 in the video
A big printer does about 36 kilograms an hour on 3.8 millimetre layers. At the same speed, what does a 1.3 millimetre fine nozzle deliver?
About four kilograms an hour. 3.8 over 1.3 is a scale down of 2.9. Squared, that's 8.5.

About the numbers
Simulations in this lesson are our own. Where a number rests on an assumption or a single source, the video marks it with an asterisk and says where it comes from.
