What we wind today
Every wound part answers one question: which way does the load go? Pipes under pressure, tanks, drive shafts, rotor sleeves and lattices each have a dominant load, and the winding angle follows it.

Now a pipe hanging down a deep well. It barely feels pressure; mostly it carries its own weight. Hoops, 55 degrees, or a low-angle helical?
A low-angle helical. The load runs along the pipe, so the fibre should too. Add hoops if it is pressurised as well.
