Real thermoplastic tape placement and consolidation hardware

AeroComp is a Eurostars project working on in-situ consolidation: getting a thermoplastic aerospace part fully consolidated as it is laid, so it never needs an autoclave afterwards. That matters most on the large, relatively simple structures — fuselage and wing skin sections — that are hardest to put in a press at all. It is difficult for a specific reason: during rapid layup there is very little time under heat and pressure for voids to close and for the polymer to diffuse across the interface. The project attacks that window with in-process thermal control that adjusts while the tape is going down, rather than a fixed recipe checked afterwards. Addcomposites coordinates the consortium.
